Social Network Rankings
February 16th, 2009 by Mike Ruschak
Going through my feed reader I stumbled upon a blog post from “Web Work Daily” that had some interesting metrics for popular social networking sites. Here is some information I found interesting.
Facebook vs. MySpace:
These social networking goliaths have held the top two spots for a while. However, Facebook recently surpassed MySpace with 69 million unique visits.
Twitter:
Twitter is now third on the list up from being 22 last year. It serves as a unique way to keep in touch with people not in the immediate proximity. This has likely contributed to its fast growth. It will be interesting to see what Twitter will become and what new features will be added to it in the future. Applications are already available that use Twitter’s API. Most allow you to view Twitter messages right on your desktop. However many offer features such as powerful filtering and grouping.
Ning:
Ning is now 12 on the list, up from 23 last year. It allows users to set up their own social networks based on a topic.
Social networking is very popular and it’s no longer a surprise to see that many organizations such as colleges have their own Facebook profiles now. My college recently created an official profile, then emailed the student body and alumni about it.
