Social Media: a permanent solution to job creation?
May 11th, 2009 by Kellie Fronk
While some companies have jumped on the social media bandwagon as a means of generating sales leads, others have found the need to add new jobs to their payroll.
For example, a team from PRNewswire recently stopped by to demonstrate their latest social media tools. The presenter had the official title of “Director, Emerging Media,” a job that didn’t exist even two years ago.
Even the fast food industry is jumping on board. Pizza Hut announced its search for the first ever summer “Twintern.” Check out the video from CNN.com. In order to stay on top of social media activity, the company is looking for a full-time paid summer twintern to monitor social networking sites, from Twitter to Facebook. Pizza Hut hopes this position will help them stay on top of negative feedback by responding quickly.
As recent college graduates begin seeking employment, heading down the social media avenue just might be the way to go. So is this explosion of social media a permanent employment generator, or just a fad?
